Atom Egoyan's latest art film is being marketed as a striptease movie, when in fact it has much larger interests on its plate. Set in a strip joint called Exotica, the film follows the converging courses of several different characters: a gay pet shop owner, a grieving accountant who has lost his daughter, a jealous DJ who introduces the girls at Exotica, and the mysterious young dancer who binds them together. Some people will still see this as a film about sex; but it's really a film about the tortured paths humans sometimes take to make connections with one another. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
