John Singleton's explosive drama about a college campus fragmented by racial hatred and gender politics has taken some hits for stereotyped characters, but anyone who's seen documentaries like PBS's School Colors or followed the news will see that Singleton has come pretty close to the mark. A challenging, thought-provoking and entertaining film that far surpasses the director's last effort Poetic Justice. Highly recommended. (R. Pitman)
