When Jack's (Richard E. Grant) wife dies delivering their firstborn, Jack goes on a major bender and returns weeks later to find that he still has a baby daughter to deal with. Putting the baby in a makeshift diaper (bandanna and cotton balls), placing a sock over her head, swaddling her in a towel, and carrying her in a padded brown mailer, Jack does what he has to do: he goes shopping. It's a riotous scene and it wins the audience's heart in what is otherwise a pretty routine story. Yes, Jack hires a nanny (Samantha Mathis); yes, Jack falls in love with her; yes, she and Jack fall out and make up. Predictable, pedestrian stuff, I know...but that baby... I'm sorry, but I have to recommend this. (R. Pitman)
