Outstanding Oscar-nominated performance by Nigel Hawthorne as England's tormented George III is the principal reason to see this entertaining and lavishly set 18th-century drama based on Alan Bennett's play. Rupert Everett is also wonderful as the slimy son who makes a play for the throne once daddy's lost his marbles, and Helen Mirren is radiant as usual as "Mrs. King." (R. Pitman)[Blu-ray/DVD Review—Nov. 14, 2017—Olive, 111 min., PG-13, DVD: $24.95, Blu-ray: $29.95—Making its latest appearance on DVD and debut on Blu-ray, 1976's The Madness of King George features a fine transfer and DTS-HD 2.0 audio on the Blu-ray release, but no extras. Bottom line: Nicholas Hytner's excellent film of Alan Bennett's play sparkles a welcome debut on Blu-ray.]
