As a modern day vampire in the Big Apple, Eddie Murphy bites...and so does this minor hit which drew only $18 million in boxoffice blood. Sporting one of worse Translyvanian accents in the history of film, Count Edward scours the Big Apple in search of Angela Bassett (who, unbeknownst to her, is part--as they say--creature of the night). A few good laughs can't begin to compensate for the hackneyed horror bits from director Wes Craven and the truly anemic dialogue. (Now, maybe if the location had been Beverly Hills...) Not recommended. (R. Pitman)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
