Built around the principle of "sacred dance," Dr. Irene Lamberti's Aerobic Prayer series combines a quasi-workout with a quasi-prayer session to create...well...a quasi-aerobic prayer video. Non-demoninational in tone (Lamberti mentions "God" and "The Creator," but also draws heavily on spiritual concepts--and dance moves--embraced by Native American, African, and Polynesian peoples), the first program of Aerobic Prayer features Lamberti and two other women doing a variety of sacred dance moves while instructing viewers to pray for peace, purposeful living, greater love in the world, etc., and offering up thanks for the bountiful blessings we humans enjoy. There is both a genuine spiritual joy and celebration of life here (this is not a workout for Calvinists) that is refreshing compared to the many mechanical aerobics videos on the market. However, the moves are not challenging enough to provide true aerobic exercise, and the odd proximity of prayer invocation and dance instruction doesn't quite mesh. The companion tape covers floor work. An optional purchase. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
