When a guy spends three years in the jungles of Borneo making a documentary that is eventually sold for upwards of $200, I can understand the high price tag. But when a "how-to" that was most likely shot over a one or two day schedule is priced at $175, I'm a little less understanding. The daunting price is particularly unfortunate in the case of Animation for Kids since it's not only a wonderful little film but it also has a potentially wide audience. Animator Patrick Jenkins and a group of five young students demonstrate how anyone can duplicate the essential aspects of animation with simple paper and pencil. The kids make a thaumatrope, flipbook, zoetrope, and other precursors of modern film projection, creating mini-epics of swimming fish, diving airplanes, and even a baseball game. For those willing to spend the money, this is highly recommended for ages 5-12. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
