Imagine it: the hangman is putting the noose around your neck, when he suddenly stops, looks at your sweater, and says: "egads, who did your neckline?" If you happened to be a seamstress (or seamster?) these would be bitter final words to take with you into eternity. It doesn't have to be that way. Basic Knitting Techniques by Bobbie Groome will show viewers how to make a balanced neckline, as well as basic knitting, purling, increases and decreases, buttonholes, pocket inserts, binding off, simple cable (not to be confused with basic cable or premium stations), and gauge (the math that goes with knitting "whether you like it or not"). As an instructor, Groome is both knowledgeable and encouraging, the over the shoulder close-ups and crisp cinematography make even the smallest of movements clear, and the accompanying booklet reiterates the steps and measurements in each of the techniques presented on the video. a little better than Knitting: From Start to Finish*ing (reviewed in our March 1989 issue), Basic Knitting Techniques by Bobbie Groome is highly recommended. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
