Does reading to a baby in the womb help launch that child on the road to success? I know of no studies that would support that notion, but some of the young parent interviewees in this unscripted, unnarrated (and unscientific) series of testimonials about the wonders of reading apparently think so. However, if you put aside your skepticism and check your logic at the opening credits, Born to Succeed offers something pretty special: teen and/or young parents who believe that reading with their infant children is beneficial to both the child and the parent--offering quality time, promoting strong bonds, and, ultimately, starting the child on the road to becoming a lifelong reader. While some of the claims may raise a few eyebrows, I am more than convinced of the importance of instilling a love of books at an early age--competition for attention starts very young. A good inspirational title for young parents or parents to be, the program is also available in a Spanish version with a Hispanic emphasis (Llave del Exito). Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (R. Pitman)
