If your husband ever puts something in his mouth which he shouldn't and you want him to let go, pinch his ear. Those jaws will unhinge, and he'll drop the object in question. Although "husbands" are not actually shown on the video, renowned dog trainer Diane Bauman's new video claims to train all breeds, and therefore might work on hubbies. It definitely works on dogs. Bauman points out to viewers the importance of using a properly fitted dumbbell (an actual small plastic retrieval thingy; we're off the subject of husbands now), and then teaches owners the "humane compulsive retrieve," which involves pinching your pooch's ear until he's able to perform a technically correct purposeful retrieve (i.e., run to the dumbbell, snatch it up cleanly, bring it back to you and sit; as opposed to say running towards the dumbbell, and then stopping to smell and contemplatively reflect on the odor of another dog's pee). Good instruction, the use of slow motion, and repeated examples make Bauman's guide a solid title (by the way, the ear pinch is just used as a last resort to get the dog to accept/drop the dumbbell); however, this is technically for owners who show dogs in competition, not your basic family dog owner. Therefore, this is recommended with reservations. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
