The brothers Achtman, entrepreneurs in the special-interest video market, have created a two-hour plus program which, unfortunately, spends more time promoting products by the brothers Achtman, than teaching independent videographers how to turn a buck in the wild and woolly world of video distribution. Separated into 10 modules, covering areas such as scriptwriting, shooting, editing, advertising, marketing, and budgeting, the program does offer some decent tips which Myron and Malcolm have learned through the proverbial school of hard knocks. But the shooting and editing segments serve more as advertisements for Adita's How to Shoot Super Videos series, and the program constantly refers to the accompanying manual (which can be purchased separately for $199.95, and was not seen). I don't mind a tape that alerts viewers to additional information, but if you say you're going to tackle a subject, like "distribution," then you should offer something more than a few vague remarks. Likewise, any tape linking the words "profit" and "special interest videos" which fails to even mention the word "libraries" is more than a little incomplete. A better choice here would be The Special Interest Video Marketing Action Plan (VL-1/96) which costs $20 more, but also is more comprehensive and doesn't charge extra for the accompanying 160-pg. manual. Not recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
