Would you know how to give a dog CPR with rescue breathing in an emergency? It's not all that different from treating a human, it turns out (except, you breathe in through the dog's nose, not his mouth). Combining dramatic re-enactments with hands-on instruction, the program features DVM Keith Gordon, who teaches viewers how to efficiently and knowledgeably respond to various canine emergencies. In addition to demonstrating the aforementioned CPR, the program covers choking (with instructions for performing the Heimlich maneuver), handling a broken limb (in this and some other emergency situations, it's wise to use your leash to muzzle the dog first, since he or she might strike out if in serious pain), stopping profuse bleeding, treating a poison case, and preventing heatstroke. A good, solid overview of dog emergency steps which canine owners should learn. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
