"Get wide!" No, that's not an invitation to gorge on Twinkies, it's a cardinal rule of good offense in soccer. This slickly produced and very kid-friendly introduction to soccer skills is hosted by Home Improvement's Zachary Ty Bryan, and features soccer professionals' John Harkes and Mia Hamm. Combining MTV-style graphics, punchy writing, an animated soccer field for demonstrations, exciting game footage, and excellent review segments, Let's Play Soccer demonstrates to viewers the basics of good defensive and offensive play. In addition, the program covers shooting and dribbling skills, and offers several drills for improving one's control of the ball. And it was nice to see Hamm, the all-time NCAA women's points scorer, running her teenage male charges through their paces. (I only wish I'd seen this tape earlier: I recently missed a Trivial Pursuit question about soccer--for the wedge, no less). Even though soccer fever has waned a bit since the U.S. was whupped in the World Cup contest, it's still a major hit with kids. An excellent complement to Play Like a Soccer Legend (VL-5/94), Let's Play Soccer is highly recommended and an Editor's Choice. (R. Pitman)
