Combining interviews with music industry members, nightclub managers, and musicians, with clips from a seminar conducted by Marilyn Bohren (whose husband is a touring blues musician), Put Your Show on the Road provides a roadmap for budding "baby" bands that want to make a (household) name for themselves. The program is divided into 5 segments: reminding viewers that playing music is a business and needs to be treated as such, discussing what belongs in promo kits and how they're best used, the fine art of getting gigs, the importance of self-promotion, and ways to make extra cash (band T-shirts, selling CD's at gigs, and so on). While not nearly as comprehensive as The Musician's Guide to the Music Business (VL-7/93), this program would make a good supplement, and actually has more information about playing on the road. Recommended. (R. Pitman)
