In this charming introduction to bike safety, produced by the University of California, a pair of siblings teach their wet-behind-the-ears parents the basics of safe bicycle riding. Winner of a Silver Apple at the National Educational Media Festival, the program covers the rules of the road (bicycle-wise), the importance of helmets (the fact that California law requires helmets is mentioned, but is the only area-specific comment made), and the potential dangers facing cyclists in traffic. Bicycle Safety Camp (VL-6/90) is a better title--though much older. Still, this one's a good intro for elementary school children, and the price drops to $15 if you buy one or both additional titles in the same series (Pedal Smarts [for high school students] and Getting There By Bike [aimed at adults]). Recommended. (R. Pitman)
