This is an upbeat look at the lives of Americans who have hung up their work caps, entered their golden years, and not become serious couch potatoes. Hosted by 40s film star Marcy McGuire, The Fabulous 50+ examines the lifestyles of several individuals and couples who have found creative hobbies in their newfound free time: there's Denise McCullough, who races vintage racing cars at the breezy age of 63; Jeanne Williams, 60 (plus) who took up the demanding physical art of marble sculpture and now has four art galleries showing her work; the Linton's and the Mueller's, couples in their 70s, who strapped their bikes onto their RVs and went looking for America; Peggy Ryan's TNT dancers, a chorus line of tap dancing grandmothers who kick up their heels on the Las Vegas circuit; or, my favorite, the Senior Olympics, where seniors compete in the same events as you would find in regular Olympic competition, including pole vaulting, and high jumping. One 84-year-old woman from Tucson, who competes in the walking contest, would leave a lot of us in her dust. This is an enjoyable and inspiring program by and for seniors who are making the most out of their dreams. The only drawback is that the tape is recorded in the LP mode, which occasionally results in fuzzy audio, but--on the whole--is much better than similar LP-recorded tapes we've seen. Recommended, with the above reservation. (Available from most distributors.)
