Erections? Vibrators? Septuagenarian sex? Art Linkletter talks about the darndest things on this video comprised of two episodes of his PBS show Art Linkletter on Positive Aging. As life expectancy is pushed closer and closer to the three-digit range, we're seeing a gradual "greying" of America. Today, one of every three American adults is over 50 (although you wouldn't guess it by looking at what popular culture has to offer). Linkletter and guests from the medical (Dr. David Heber) and entertainment fields (Della Reese) talk about the seven rules of health (involving eating, sleeping, and exercise habits) during the first half of the program. It's during the second half of the program that faces turn a little red, when Dr. Evelyn Freeman raises the subject of the erect penis--Linkletter responds by shaking his head, laughing, and then exclaiming: "oh, I forgot, this is 1994." Even though each of us individually knows that our parents never had sex (my parents? having sex? please!), it turns out that elderly folk do in fact often enjoy satisfying romantic relationships well into their later years. a good inspirational program that's both educational and entertaining. Recommended. (R. Pitman)
