In this sequel to the sequel to the sequel (Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, and now Sailor Moon Super S) of the popular Japanese anime series, Sailor Moon soldier Usagi, her high school aged micro-skirted gal pals, and the runt of the group--Sailor Mini-Moon (also called Chibi-Usa)--battle the Dead Moon Circus's Amazon Trio (Fish-Eye, Tiger's-Eye and Hawk's-Eye), who are sent by ringmaster Zirconia to find a unicorn named Pegasus, believed to be hiding out in one of the girl's dreams. Plotwise, this is thinner than Oliver Twist's porridge, as the majority of the programs collected in this 39-episode seven-disc boxed set share essentially the same story line: the Amazon Trio target a girl for dream inspection, resulting in a climactic battle with various Dead Moon Circus fiends squaring off against the "super" girls, who sport rather goofy special powers/moves ("Moon Gorgeous Meditation!"). While the dialogue occasionally rises to laughable heights ("I will not allow anyone to tarnish a star-drenched evening with senseless evil") and the animation is unexceptional (though some of the Dead Moon Circus fiends are quite imaginatively drawn), the various Sailor Moon series have been perennial favorites among younger and/or nostalgic anime fans. Containing the original Japanese "uncut" versions, this dual-language set, rated 13-up, is low on extras (the original Japanese opening is listed as an extra, but that's what opens each show here anyway), but should be considered a strong optional purchase due to popularity.
