Here's a novel concept: at Daimon High School, where martial arts comprise a major part of the curriculum, student disputes are settled in a quiet fashion with a patient mediator. Ha! I'm kidding! Actually, fights are settled by…fighting (and rather odd name-calling: "you perverted shoo-in of a wench!"). Queen among the student practitioners of what are called "K-Fights" is Ryoko Mitsurugi, the titular samurai girl, who opens the series by handing members of the "Amateur Ninja Club" their collective butts before the discovery of a mysterious pendant transports her to an alternate dimension where she must fight a dragon that is considerably more powerful than the nunchuck wielding snot-nosed brats she's accustomed to dispatching back on campus. Featuring the initial four episodes (Samurai Girl Appears, The Strongest Man on Earth Joins the Fight, Enter the Way of the Swordsman and The Girl With Deep Black Eyes), this nicely drawn, mildly engaging bit of anime fluff--rated 13-up--looks sharp on the extras-laden DVD, which includes anime outtakes, featurettes, and original promo commercials.
